Day 1: In Stockholm
Optional: Walking Stockholm Ecopark
Optional: Walking 'Söder' region of Stockholm

Today you arrive at Stockholm and you free time to explore the picturesque city of Stockholm. Often referred to as the 'Venice of the North', Stockholm is unquestionably a unique and beautiful city all year round, not only due to its location on 14 islands with its infinite presence of water, but also because of its combination of nature, colourful architecture and ancient history. And you need never walk far to appreciate the impressive views stretching across the Baltic water as it winds past the city walls. Furthermore, stroll through 13th century Gamla Stan, Stockholm's charming old town, where you cannot help but feel its medieval atmosphere as you wander through the cobblestone streets past narrow, colourful houses of yesteryear. There is so much to see in Stockholm, appealing to so many different interests, that you are sure to find something special within walking distance of your hotel.

For those of you keen to start hiking, we can offer you an optional self-guided hiking tour through Stockholm's unique Ecopark - the world's first National Park to be located within a bustling city. The Ekopark is 27 km2 and is a green oasis combining cultural heritage and natural features. Here you can hike through ancient forests, visit palaces and bathe from waterside rocks.

Alternatively concentrate on the vibrant 'Söder' region of Stockholm and walk the many quaint alleys, passing historic housing and churches and a handful of impressive viewpoints across the city.

Day 2: Stockholm → Tullgarn Palace → Trosa

The next morning, you start with a transfer from Stockholm south to the county of Sörmland and the impressive Tullgarn Palace, an 18th century royal palace located on the seashore with magnificent views of the Baltic waters. Guided tours available and café/restaurant. After your visit, you hike southwards enjoying the coastal scenery of the hiking path. The hike follows the Sörmlandsleden which winds its way for over 100o km through the Sörmland county passing true wilderness, glittering lakes, areas of cultural tradition and historic monuments. You pass by wonderful viewpoints and Kömote beach where you can take a quick swim in the sea before you continue your journey on to the seaside town of Trosa. Trosa is a charming 17th century town called 'the World's End' because it of its location on the banks of the Baltic Sea with endless views of the ocean all around. The little square, surrounded by old wooden houses, marks the centre of town and the walkway along the canal as it winds its way to the ocean is not to be missed.

Note there is an option to shorten the hike.

Day 3: Trosa → Stendörren → Nyköping

This morning, you start with a taxi transfer from Trosa to Stendörren nature reserve, a beautiful archipelago with a distinct feeling of peace and tranquillity in an unspoilt nature. Here you have the whole day to follow the loop through the whole nature reserve which takes you through lush forests as well as across the many islands using their intriguing system of suspension bridges. Take time to visit the viewpoint with 360 degrees views of the surroundings and many swimming spots to enjoy the clean, refreshing Baltic waters from the ice-smoothed rocks. To learn more about the natural environment pay a visit to the Naturum information centre. After a day of exploring you make your way to the nearest bus stop and take the bus onwards to Nyköping.

Day 4: Nyköping → Lake Nävsjön → Nävekvarn

This morning your transfer collects you from your hotel and takes you through beautiful Kiladalen region to lake Nävsjön - a popular destination for outdoor activity. Think that when you walk through the Nävsjön nature reserve the pines surrounding you are over 250 years old, with many over 350 years old. If only trees could talk...

Your hike starts with a 8 km loop around the lake, hugging the shores and offering plenty of places to swim and views to admire. After completing the loop you then continue on the Sörmlandsleden towards Nävekvarn. The trail now takes you through calm beautiful forest as you make your way towards the shore of Bråviken.

After the following the shore you start your ascent to Nävekvarn Klint hilltop where you enjoy far-stretching views across Bråviken. Take your time here to enjoy the views before descending into Nävekvarn seaside village, also rich in mining history. Nävekvarn is a true hiker's paradise thanks to the many Sörmlandsleden trails that start and end here in the little village.

Day 5: Nävekvarn  Buskhyttan → Koppartorp Simonberget Nävekvarn
Sörmlandsleden loops: Kummelberget, Mining loop, Simonberget, Skäret plus walk to and from Buskhyttan

Today you take the bus from Nävekvarn to Buskhyttan. From Buskhyttan you then walk about 4 km to Koppartorp. Once at Koppartorp there are a selection of loops to fill your day. One loop takes you around the foot of Kummelberget hill, another loop takes you through a former mining district, and the third loop takes you up to Simonberget hill where you can enjoy fantastic views across the countryside.

Once back down from the heights of Simonberget you can wander over to Koppartorp, a district rich in culture and history where you can visit the local folklore museum, church dating back to 1620 and mining museum from the 14th century. A wonderfully preserved piece of history.

The it's a short walk back to Buskhyttan and bus back to Nävekvarn for an afternoon exploring the little island Skäret on Nävekvarn's doorstep.

Day 6: Nävekvarn Ålbäck → Nyköping

Today your hike starts directly from Nävekvarn and what a treat you have in store today!

Your route today follows the spectacular Bråviken coast, enjoying coastal scenery from both the water's edge and from hilltops all along the way, with spectacular mile-wide views. This is a beautiful stretch of coastline of which the Sörmlandsleden takes maximum advantage.

Take a break from the trails and enjoy the handful of beaches that you pass along the way.

A transfer meets you at the end of day's hike and transfers you to the busy harbour at  Nyköping.

Day 7: Nyköping → Stockholm

This afternoon you take the walkway which follows the picturesque Nyköping river from the harbour through the town centre and on to open countryside. You pass by many interesting sights along the way including Nyköping's landmark - Nyköpingshus castle, Hållet nature reserve, Slabro rock carvings and bridge after bridge, each with their own story to tell. After crossing open countryside your walk then ends at Oppeby, from where you take the bus back to Nyköping.

At a time that suits you, you then take the train from Nyköping back to Stockholm.
