Day 1: Stockholm → Mariefred
A TASTE OF SÖRMLAND begins in the historic city of Strängnäs whose history stems back to the Viking era due to its location right on the shores of the beautiful Lake Mälaren. Strängnäs is one of Sweden’s oldest towns and is most noted for its imposing cathedral, perched high on a hill, dating from the mid 1200’s.
After your visit to Strängnäs, you take your bicycles and cycle through green fields and deep forests and along the shores of Lake Mälaren to the isolated Taxinge Manor House. Taxinge is not only a beautiful manor house set in glorious surroundings but it is famous for its cakes.
Plenty of time is allowed to marvel at the display. After your tea break, you board the charming steam train from Taxinge, reminiscent of times gone by, and make your way back to the village of Mariefred. Mariefred was founded in 1605 and is famed for its narrow, winding streets and colourful, wooden houses as well as being home to one of the most important and magnificent castles in the region, Gripsholm - a stone’s throw from your night’s accommodation.

Day 2: Mariefred → Stockholm
A morning transfer takes you to the start of your canoeing trip where you are met and provided with your canoes. After your canoe introduction, the route takes you through remarkable scenery as you paddle gently down Lake Marviken to Laxne. The area has its own unique character because of its geological history - the mountain split in two and as a result Lake Marviken is today bordered by 50 metre high cliffs. Here you will have time to enjoy your picnic lunch looking out over the beautiful lake views.
After lunch, you get back on your bicycles for the next part of your journey back to Mariefred through pine forests dotted with lakes glistening through the trees. Stop for a swim or stroll through the woods to enjoy the surroundings yet further.
On arrival back to Mariefred you board the steamboat which takes you the scenic journey across lake Mälaren back to Stockholm.

Day 1: Stockholm → Nyköping
LAND OF LAKES AND CASTLES starts in the charming city of Nyköping where your accommodation for the first night is in the heart of the city. Nyköping has everything that Sweden is best known for: history, culture, beautiful countryside and a glorious archipelago on its doorstep. It is one of Sweden's oldest towns and here you can visit Nyköpingshus, its famous fortress dating back from the Middle Ages where you can learn more about the fascinating history of this region. Alternatively stroll along the river flowing through the heart of the town until you reach the busy seaside harbour with its restaurants and shops. The harbour has a lively atmosphere in the summertime and there are some interesting galleries, antique and craft shops from the local artisans.

Day 2: Nyköping → Trosa
This morning, you board the boat from Nyköping which takes you directly across to the Stendörren Nature Reserve, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the world because of its distinct feeling of peace and tranquillity in an unspoilt nature.
Here you have the rest of the morning to hike across the many islands using their intriguing system of suspension bridges, or swim in the clean, refreshing Baltic waters.
After your picnic lunch in the Reserve, you take your bikes and cycle along country lanes through the varied countryside; evergreen forests, meadows and lakes. You pass the impressive 17th century Nynäs Manor House where you can rest your legs and enjoy a guided tour, take a canoe or kayak, or hike the trails in the manor house grounds. En route, you can also stop at Sandvik beach for a quick swim in the sea before you continue your journey on to the seaside town of Trosa. Trosa is visited by many Stockholmers in the summer months because of its unique location surrounded by both open landscape and another marvellous archipelago.

Day 3: Trosa → Gnesta
The next morning you can choose to take a short break in Trosa before continuing your journey onwards. Trosa is a charming 17th century town called 'the World's End' because it of its location on the banks of the Baltic Sea with endless views of the ocean all around. The little square, surrounded by old wooden houses, marks the centre of town and the walkway along the canal as it winds its way to the ocean is not to be missed.
When you are ready, you continue your cycle journey stopping first at the royal Tullgarn Palace, an 18th century palace located on the seashore with magnificent views of the Baltic waters. Relax and enjoy your lunch in the beautiful palace gardens.
After lunch continue your journey by bike, enjoying the Swedish countryside at its very best; pine forests, sparkling lakes and open green fields. Soon you arrive at the outskirts of Gnesta where you can enjoy the beautiful views and tranquillity of your charming Bed & Breakfast.

At Laxne, you are met with your canoe and given your canoe introduction. Your picnics are also provided so that you can continue your journey up Lake Marviken to Åkers Styckebruk, pausing to enjoy your lunch and the remarkable scenery. The area has its own unique character because of its geological history - the mountain split in two and as a result Lake Marviken is today bordered by 50 metre high cliffs.
At Åkers Styckebruk, you are transferred to the charming town of Mariefred, founded in 1605 and famed for its narrow, winding streets and colourful, wooden houses as well as being home to one of the most important and magnificent castles in the region, Gripsholm. Here you board the steamboat to take you back to Stockholm where you spend the night at a pension in the heart of the city, within walking distance of all sights, restaurants and the charming old town.

FOOTPRINTS ACROSS DALES AND WOODLAND begins with a transfer by your Nordic Trails representative to the start point of your day hike, at Näset. This hike takes you through the Tullgarn Nature Reserve and past the impressive Tullgarn Palace, an 18th century royal palace located on the seashore with magnificent views of the Baltic waters. Guided tours available and café/restaurant. From the palace, you hike towards Trosa to Stensund where you will be collected and transferred straight to Trosa village for your overnight stay. You then continue hiking through the nature reserve until you reach your final destination at Bråfalls Såg. Here you will be collected and transferred to the outskirts of Gnesta where you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of your charming Bed & Breakfast with wonderful views across the beautiful countryside.

You hike at times past the long Lake Klämmingen, pausing to enjoy your lunch and the remarkable scenery of the area.
You hike in the direction of Gnesta to an inlet called Yngsviken where you will be picked up and transferred back to your overnight at Gnesta.

A MULTI ACTIVITY ADVENTURE starts with a trip on a steamboat that takes you from Stockholm, over Lake Mälaren, to the delightful village of Mariefred. The village with its lakeside location, many shops and cafes and historical buildings including the impressive Gripsholm’s Castle is well worth a wander. You could also take your bicycles and cycle through green fields, deep forests and along the shores of Lake Mälaren to the isolated Taxinge Manor House. After lunch, you get back into your canoes and continue paddling as the lake widens into the beautiful Lake Klämmingen. Take advantage of the clean, fresh water as you stop at one of the small beaches lining the lakeshore.
And enjoy the quiet and calm as you gently paddle down the middle of the lake, listening only to the birds and softly lapping waves. A short while after entering Lake Klämmingen you will find your camp set up for a peaceful night among the wildlife.

This morning you will be transferred direct from your accommodation to the start point of today’s hike at Djupvikssjön. This hike is a true wilderness stretch which takes you through varied landscape, passing lakes, both large and small, forests and hills with delightful views across the Sörmland landscape. Stop to enjoy your lunch and a refreshing swim in one of the many remote lakes en route. You hike in the direction of Gnesta to an inlet called Yngsviken where you will be picked up and transferred back to your accommodation at Gnesta, a beautifully located farmhouse with wonderful views.

Day 1: Stockholm → Mariefred
THE WATERS AND WOODS OF SÖRMLAND begins with a trip on a steamboat that takes you from Stockholm, over Lake Mälaren, to the delightful village of Mariefred. Mariefred was founded in 1605 and is famed for its narrow, winding streets and colourful, wooden houses as well as being home to one of the most important and magnificent castles in the region, Gripsholm’s Castle. You will have some free time this afternoon to visit the castle or simply wander the streets of the old town and admire the lake views. You may even decide to take the charming steam train, reminiscent of times gone by, and visit Taxinge Manor House. Taxinge is not only a beautiful manor house set in glorious surroundings but it is famous for its cakes. Plenty of time is allowed to marvel at the display. After your tea break, you board the steam train which takes you back to Mariefred.

Day 2: Mariefred → Lake Klämmingen
A short transfer takes you to the start of your canoeing trip where you are met and provided with your canoes. After your canoe introduction, the route takes you through remarkable scenery as you paddle gently down Lake Marviken to Laxne. The area has its own unique character because of its geological history - the mountain split in two and as a result Lake Marviken is today bordered by 50 metre high cliffs. Here you will have time to enjoy your picnic lunch looking out over the beautiful lake views.
After lunch, you get back into your canoes and continue paddling as the lake widens into the beautiful Lake Klämmingen. Take advantage of the clean, fresh water as you stop at one of the many small beaches lining the lakeshore. And enjoy the quiet and calm as you gently paddle down the middle of the lake, listening only to the birds and softly lapping waves. A short while after entering Lake Klämmingen you will find your camp set up for a peaceful night among the wildlife.

Day 3: Lake Klämmingen → Gnesta
This morning, you continue your journey by canoe down Lake Klämmingen, again stopping at beaches to swim or soak up the summer sun. Pull into one of the remote islands in the middle of Lake Klämmingen to stretch your legs. Pass by the impressive Södertuna Manor House and take in the lovely views across Lake Frösjön. Today you will paddle the whole length of Klämmingen lake and stop where it ends in Gnesta town where you will have some free time to visit the lakeside town. Your canoes will be left here whilst you are transferred to your overnight accommodation, a beautifully located farm house with wonderful views of the surrounding landscape.

Day 4: Gnesta
This morning you will be transferred direct from your accommodation to the start point of today’s hike at Fredriksberg. This hike takes you through varied landscape, passing lakes, both large and small, forests and hills with delightful views across the Södermanland landscape. You hike at times past the long Lake Klämmingen, pausing to enjoy your lunch and the remarkable scenery of the area.
You hike in the direction of Gnesta to an inlet called Yngsviken where you will be picked up and transferred back to your overnight at Gnesta.

Day 5: Gnesta → Trosa
Today’s hike is located in the Nynäs Nature Reserve. You hike from Mättinge village and along the Baltic shores, passing by the impressive 17th century Nynäs Manor House where you can rest your legs and enjoy a guided tour or rent a canoe. You then continue hiking through the Nature Reserve until you reach your final destination at Bråfalls Såg from where you will be transferred to the charming village of Trosa. Trosa is visited by many Stockholmers in the summer months because of its unique location surrounded by both open landscape and a marvellous archipelago.

Day 6: Trosa → Stockholm
This morning you are transfered the short way to Näset where your day hike begins. This hike takes you through the Tullgarn Nature Reserve and past the impressive Tullgarn Palace, an 18th century royal palace located on the seashore with magnificent views of the Baltic waters. Guided tours available and café/restaurant. From the palace, you hike towards Trosa to Stensund where you will be collected by your representative and transferred back to Stockholm.

Day 1: Stockholm → Mariefred
SÖRMLAND'S BACKROADS AND SILENT LAKES begins with a transfer to historic Strängnäs whose history stems back to the Viking era due to its location right on the shores of the beautiful Lake Mälaren. Strängnäs is one of Sweden’s oldest towns and is most noted for its imposing cathedral, built in 1260. and perched high on a hill.
After your visit to Strängnäs, you take your bikes and cycle through green fields and deep forests and along the shores of Lake Mälaren to the isolated Taxinge Manor House. Taxinge is not only a beautiful manor house set in glorious surroundings but it is famous for its cakes. Plenty of time is allowed to marvel at the display. After your tea break, you board the charming steam train from Taxinge, reminiscent of times gone by, and make your way back to the village of Mariefred. This morning, you continue your journey by canoe down Lake Klämmingen, again stopping at beaches to swim or soak up the summer sun. Pass by the impressive Södertuna Manor House and take in the stunning views across Lake Frösjön. After a morning of canoeing in the fresh air, you will look forward to stopping at Gnesta for a rest and some well deserved lunch. After lunch, your voyage continues down the narrow Sigtuna canal that opens out in your final lake - Lake Sillen. Another beautiful lake, you can appreciate its solitude and scenery as you paddle to your accommodation for the night, an impressive manor house located on its shore at Mälby on the outskirts of Gnesta.

Day 4: Gnesta → Trosa
This morning you complete the journey down some of Sweden's most scenic lakes. From Mälby, you take your canoes for the last time and paddle down Lake Sillen to the small and secluded beach at Sille. Here you can enjoy another chance to swim in the calm lake waters.
At Sille you collect your bicycles and cycle along quiet country lanes to the seaside town of Trosa. Trosa is visited by many Stockholmers in the summer months because of its unique location surrounded by both open landscape and a marvellous archipelago. Here you will arrive in the afternoon so that you have time to wander around this charming little town, enjoying its many restaurants and shops.

Day 5: Trosa → Gnesta
The next morning you can choose to take a short break in Trosa before continuing your journey onwards. Trosa is a charming 17th century town called 'the World's End' because it of its location on the banks of the Baltic Sea with endless views of the ocean all around. The little square, surrounded by old wooden houses, marks the centre of town and the walkway along the canal as it winds its way to the ocean is not to be missed.
When you are ready, you continue your cycle journey stopping first at the royal Tullgarn Palace, an 18th century palace located on the seashore with magnificent views of the Baltic waters. Relax and enjoy your lunch in the beautiful palace gardens.
After lunch continue your journey by bike, enjoying the Swedish countryside at its very best; pine forests, sparkling lakes and open green fields. You pass by the town of Gnesta again where you can stop for refreshments before you head to your overnight destination just outside of Gnesta at a manor house set amid the rolling hills.

This morning, you cycle from Gnesta to Laxne along the shores of the beautiful Lake Klämmingen where you have plenty of opportunity to stop and swim in the clear waters. At Laxne, you may stop for refreshments at the village shop or continue on your journey back into the Swedish forests until you reach the small Lake Älgsjön. This makes the ideal stop to enjoy your picnic lunch in the peaceful and beautiful surroundings.
After lunch, you continue by bicycle through the forests, passing hidden lakes until you return to the charming town of Mariefred from where you board the steamboat to take across lake Mälaren all the way back to Stockholm

Day 1: Stockholm → Tyresta National Park
ARCHIPELAGO ISLAND ADVENTURE begins with a transfer from your accommodation in Stockholm to Tyresö Manor House from where you trail begins. Tyresö is an imposing manor house dating back to the 17th century boasting impressive waterside English gardens. Take a stroll through the gardens or across to the nearby small islands with wonderful views across the sea and forests before you start your cycle journey along quiet country lanes the short way to Tyresta National Park. Tyresta is a protected area of some 5000 hectares with trees dating back over 500 years, sparkling forest lakes and a wealth of wildlife. Deer roam freely throughout whilst moose wait their turn as dusk falls. Take a break from cycling and instead hike the trails through the endless forests of pine and birch, taking a refreshing dip as you pass by one of the many lakes. Find the perfect spot and enjoy the peace, tranquility and breathtaking nature of Stockholm’s only National Park. After free time in the park, you spend the night at the peaceful camping site at Åva where you can pitch your tent right by the water’s edge.

Day 2: Tyresta National Park → Ornö
The next morning enjoy your breakfast at the local café before you take to your bikes again and cycle through fields and woods until you reach the idyllic village of Dalarö, your first taste of Stockholm’s wonderful archipelago. Dalarö is an old customs station that developed into a popular resort town in the latter part of the 19th century due to its picturesque location and charming village. Russian troops set fire to the entire town in 1719, sparing only the church that stands to this day. Here you will have some free time to explore the picturesque narrow streets of colourful wooden houses, swim from the white beaches of Schweizerdalen, pay a visit to the beautiful 15th century church or visit the Archipelago museum, before you take the afternoon boat to Ornö, yet to be discovered by large scale tourism. The journey is short so when you arrive to Ornö you still have plenty of time to fit in some extra cycling. You can leave the boat at the first stop on Ornö together with your bicycles and cycle southwards towards your accommodation at Kyrkviken village. Ornö is the largest island in the southern archipelago totaling 14km in length and 6km at its widest part. Ornö has traditionally been less exploited for tourism than some of its neighbouring islands and remains today an island with a living community.

Day 3: Ornö → Utö
Today you have another day to enjoy the country lanes of Ornö. We suggest that today you take your map of the island and set out for your own adventure. During the day, you will have the chance to visit the four corners of the island, stopping at little cafes, lakes, the pretty church and of course beaches. For exceptional views over the southern islands, hike up Telegrafberget which is the southern archipelago’s highest point at 63m above sea level. Alternatively take to the waters and rent a sea kayak and explore Ornö’s varied coastline.
Late afternoon, you take the boat to your next stop, the holiday island of Utö, visited by Stockholmers for its Nature Reserve, exceptional beaches and history. In Utö village itself, the iron mine was worked as early as the 1100s and today both the mine and the museum are open to visitors.

Day 4: Utö → Fjärdlång
This morning you are free on Utö to further enjoy its scenery. Take your bikes and cycle the length of the island, cross over a bridge to the small island of Ålö where you will find solitude on a white sand beach plus a charming fish restaurant. Utö also offers a wealth of other activities from sea kayaking on its calm waters, to hiking or horse riding along the many trails through forests and open country, stopping to enjoy the smooth waterside rocks, white sandy beaches and breathe the fresh, pure archipelago air.
In the afternoon, you catch the boat onwards to your third archipelago island, Fjärdlång. Despite being on the edge of bustling Stockholm, Fjärdlång could not be more remote and the whole island has been deservedly declared a nature reserve. You arrive in the late afternoon so why not take a swim in the clean, fresh water from the smooth cliffs so characteristic of the archipelago rocks.

Today you have the day to explore Fjärdlång further. Marked footpaths wind their way through the island’s woodland so you can spend the day hiking around the island. Don’t miss a trip to the island’s highest point, Tysta Klint, where you can admire the spectacular views stretching across the archipelago. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to swim, or simply spend a few hours paddling around the calm waters surrounding the island in a sea kayak. You then prepare for your journey back to the buzz of Stockholm city.
